Profile handlers are coming soon!

Hello supporters!

Consurf is making big changes! And one of the aspects of the change is to enhance the importance of your Consurf Profile.

How it is today

When you browse a user profile on Consurf, you see a mumble jumble of letters and numbers. This is your CID (Consurf ID) - it uniquely identifies you across the platform, and even beyond.

What's coming

In the next month, Consurf will introduce a really neat update to the website! Making it more social, this move will make Consurf profiles much more relevant, and hence, we want to make it more yours.

In this update to come, we will be introducing Profile Handlers, the famous "@" unique identifier that is your identity in so many websites.

Instead of "cmc8fomlz0000s89mj6quwdbi", I will be simply "nuki".

As Consurf evolves, we want this to become more and more an option to be your landing page, where people will be able to follow you somewhere else. What exactly, that's a surprise!

When can I pick my @handle?

We will announce a week prior of the big release here, and we will provide you a form to fill with your desired username.

The migration from CID to Handle will be automatic. While unlikely, if someone chooses the same handle, the tiebreaker as follows:
  1. Subscribers of our Patreon will have first dibs on their handlers (you still have time to help us)
  2. Order of User Level
    1. Admins
    2. Moderators
    3. Collaborators
    4. Everyone else
  3. Older accounts to new
You can learn which level you are by logging in and going to https://consurf.net/docs/levels

What happens if I don't pick my @handle?

We will assign you one following these rules:
  1. If you linked your Bluesky, we will try to assign your Bsky handle
    1. yourname.bsky.app (your handle will be "yourname")
    2. Custom example.com handlers like "nuki.vip" (will be "nukivip")
  2. If no Bluesky, we will assign you a randomly generated username, which is the same that gets assigned to you when you create an account today.
    1. quality-animal-0000 (i.e.: proud-fox-1234)
You can change it at anytime to a custom one.

Some other questions

  • Can I change my @handle?
    • Yes, there is no restrictions to change, as long it's free, it's yours

  • Will my profile URL change if I change @handle?
    • Yes, like Telegram, if you change your handle, your URL will change - make sure you do not break your links and update

  • If I get migrated, will my previous CID URL break?
    • No. The good news, the CID is backwards compatible, if you have links that point to a "CID" type of URL, Consurf will handle it
    • There will be a grace period before we remove this backwards compatibility

  • Is there a way to have a link that always work, regardless of my @handle URL?
    • Yes, like Bluesky, we will offer everyone a "canonical link", and you use that as a safest way to guarantee your URL never break if you change your @handle
    • More information to come

@Handler can lead to misuse, stay on top

We are aware. The worst thing is impersonators: If someone claims for example @nuki and pretends to be @nuki in Consurf. That's why it's important to always check for verified links in their profile. We offer a way to link your FurAffinity today, many more to come later.

You will be able to flag a profile as suspected impersonator. Though, it is preferrable that if you have a handle you cherish and use across many platforms, to claim it as soon as possible, since @handler dispute can take some time to sort out.

If your handler is your brand, you can still have first dibs by having an account in Consurf and fill the form, or consider help us, even for one cycle on Patreon to have absolute first dibs.

All the help on Patreon go towards Consurf, a not for profit project.
